All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement presented at the time of booking confirmation or upon vehicle collection. This agreement outlines important terms, conditions, insurance information, applicable charges, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In cases of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To hire a vehicle from Car Hire in Saffron Walden, you must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ based on vehicle type. A valid full driving licence, appropriate for the vehicle category, is required, as well as valid identification and proof of current address. 3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Saffron Walden office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment, along with a security deposit, is generally required when you pick up your vehicle. All fees are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, ensuring secure transactions through established payment processors.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, it is your responsibility to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and must be signed by both parties. Upon returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as when it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be assessed and appropriate charges will apply. The vehicle should also be returned with the same amount of fuel as received; otherwise, refueling charges will be incurred. Consider exploring additional insurance options to minimize your potential financial liability. You are liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount unless you opt for extra coverage. Any damage resulting from negligence or misuse remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance status.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ depending on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise details, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or similar risky behaviors is prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials is not allowed. Sub-letting or permitting unauthorized drivers is against policy. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purpose, and passenger or weight limits must be adhered to. Driving outside of the agreed geographical limits without prior authorization is not permitted.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Car Hire in Saffron Walden will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits or data, related to your use of our services. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.

These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will fall under the jurisdiction of the relevant courts in this region.
